If Pets Had Thumbs Day

March 1 2019
There are quite a few unofficial pet holidays on the calendar for 2019, and one of the cutest ones is coming up. March 3rd is If Pets Had Thumbs Day! What sort of havoc do you think your furry pal would wreak if he or she had thumbs? A local Oshawa, ON vet offers some suggestions below.

Dogs

It’s probably safe to say that Fido’s first plan of action would be to raid the fridge. And the cupboards. And any other spot in the home that may have food. You’d probably come home to find a bit of a mess. As for your canine friend, he’d either be sleeping off a very large meal, or halfway down the street after letting himself out the door. Another thing on your dog’s agenda may be going house to house and letting all the dogs out. Then, your pooch would head off to a park or beach with his buddies.

Cats

Kitties have different motivations than dogs do, so we suspect Fluffy would be motivated more by curiosity than by her stomach, at least at first. Your feline buddy may very well go through every closet, cupboard, and drawer in the house, and take out anything that looks like it could be a fun toy. She may also use your computer to order herself some cat furniture online, before locking Fido out of the house entirely.

Bunnies

Rabbits look very innocent and charming, but don’t be fooled. These adorable little guys are quite mischievous and stubborn! Your bunny would promptly get rid of any baby gates or fences that keep her from roaming freely throughout the house. She would then likely get into her food stash, or perhaps let herself into your garden, before nibbling on every book and paper you have in your home.

Birds

Polly may be small, but she’s got a big personality, and is always looking for ways to entertain herself. We wouldn’t put it past our feathered friends to make some serious mischief. Your pet may open a drawer and throw everything out of it. Or, she may enjoy changing radio stations and singing along to some of her favorite songs. We suspect some birds would also enjoy making prank calls. Please reach out to us, your local Oshawa, ON vet clinic, if ever we can be of assistance. We’re here to help.
